In “Forum Teaching Poetry with a Personal Experience”, Shelia bases her teaching of primary and middle school off of her own childhood memories of a collection of poems, A Child’s Garden of Verses, by Robert Lois Stevenson. She remembered loving poetry at a young age, especially from the book as the poems were often about kids. As Shelia became a teacher, however, she realized that other children would not have the same experience. Other teachers often did not expose children to much poetry. So, she took it upon herself to show these kids the light. Shelia journeyed to find a new poetry book, one meant for children. This book ended up being A Time for Poetry, by Mary Hill Arbuthnot.
