While Dr. Clark’s book caused great turmoil, feminist responses to Dr. Clark’s warning indicated the exploration of female capacity and female role by female educators themselves. By questioning the assumption that the uniqueness of women body makes women incapable of higher education, female students and educators began to challenge the conventional role of male and female which was based on the biological difference, and they were less binding to the Victorian notion of domesticity.
