Summary of KINS 470

For most classes, the main portion of the class is lecture, and then there may be a lab attached to go along with what is learned. Exercise Science Lab was different than any other class that I have taken in the exercise science curriculum. The entire class was a lab class itself. The lecture was very minimum, and most of the time spent was conducting tests and collecting data. This class provided me with the opportunity to implement everything that I have learned in other classes by putting it all in a practical sense. I am a hands-on learner, so I was able to easily grasp onto the topics and apply my knowledge. Even though there was not that many topics covered, I learned a great deal of useful information. The pre-assessment health screening will be the most useful information for me as I move towards my future as a physical therapist. In every setting, the information in the risk stratification form will be used in evaluations before starting to work with a patient. Not only can I apply it to my profession, but it allows me to be able to assess and understand what these things mean for me. For example, I can monitor and

Before this class, I was always afraid of blood pressure. I saw it as one of the hardest assessments, so I tried to stay clear of it. Now, after the weeks of practice and exposure to assessing blood pressure, I have all the confidence to perform this on anyone. It feels like a big accomplishment to me since I never used to like the thought of doing it. Not only am I able to take a resting blood pressure, but I am also able to effectively measure it during exercise. It’s not too bad after all if you’re given the chance to practice enough to acquire the proper technique. It is also helpful knowing the classifications since there are so many people nowadays that have hypertension and may be an exercise risk. This assists in providing the correct exercise prescription for

Psychology 201 has been a very intriguing course for me so far. I really enjoyed learning about how the brain works and how big of a role it plays in our lives. Some specific areas of psychology I enjoyed studying were Operant Conditioning, the theories of motivation, and Jean-Dominique Bauby. Operant Conditioning was a familiar concept, even though I was not familiar with the specific terminology. I think reinforcement and punishment are very interesting topics that apply to everyone's lives.…

After two reported sexual assault safety alerts, attempted unauthorized entry in college apartments, river and house flooding and the unthinkable death of Bjorn Norderhaug, we are a community that has suffered through a lot of tragedies. We are a community that is still grieving and for some still in shock from such events. It can be hard to continue on with our lives when we are aware of such loses. It’s as if with a drop of a hat we can become sad when we think about what the Luther College and Decorah community has gone through in such a short time period, and I want to say if no one has already, that it is okay to be sad.…

It is painfully obvious that FlexMed has had an impact on my educational plan in college. At first, I had intentions of studying History and Computer Science. It began when my five best friends from my dorm hall decided that they wanted to live together off-campus sophomore year.…

I want to thank you for the opportunity to be able to apply for the Physical Therapist's Assistant Program (PTA) at Whatcom Community College. My passion for Physical Therapy began in high school while working at my first job, which was fortunately in a Physical Therapist office. At this job, my aide duties included assisting patients through exercises and setting up patients on modalities. Being a student athlete, this job opportunity made me realize the importance of physical therapy due to sports injuries of team members and classmates. The abundance of these injuries showed that physical therapy and sports rehab injury prevention is a priority among young athletes.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

To surmise, SBPT are present only a small portion of a student’s cumulative time at school. Although limited in their scope of service; if all personnel are appropriately trained, continually monitored and supervised there is a potential for greater functional improvement in the student’s ability to access their educational environment (Thomason, & Wilmarth, 2015; Rapport , 2003). In this therapist’s school district, when training is student specific, a form is used so verify the instruction regarding a healthcare procedure (see Appendix for TRAINING OF HEALTHCARE PROCEDURES).
