Over the course of the four years that Ender was at Battle School, he was molded by his instructors and peers to be the best leader that Earth had ever known. Ender appears to have a situational leadership style. The Center for Association Leadership describes situational leading as “Links behavior with group’s readiness” and “Includes being directing and supportive, while empowering and coaching”. Ender was an isolated, third born young man who was raised knowing he had to defeat the buggers. He was forced by his family and the government who told him he was born for one reason and one reason only, to defeat the buggers. At a young age, Ender was recruited into Battle School to learn how to fight the buggers and he did so well that he became the best commander and moved up to Command school to control the simulator. When he was fighting in the “simulated games”, he was actually fighting real buggers and was in real battles, but he didn’t find this out until every bugger was killed. The book was better than the movie because the book had more details and action while the movie left many details…

Jones discussed the importance of a leader’s ability to influence followers and provided support by presenting the strength of charismatic leadership traits and situational leadership theory within a military setting. While the strengths of both the personality and the chosen leadership style may be valid determinants of leadership success, they do not always correlate to long-term shaping of follower readiness. Specifically, in the case of situational leadership theory, the research of Vecchio, Bullis, and Brazil (2006) concluded that “it has yet to be demonstrated that leaders who attempt to emulate the prescriptions of the theory will have higher effectiveness” (p. 418). Their findings placed more value on the positive effects of leader-member…

As a result of this, Ender obliterated the Buggers, unintentionally killing a whole species, which had no longer wanted to war with humanity ages ago but could not communicate this. This is only found out when Ender discovers an unborn pupa of a Bugger queen on the newly inhabited planet, discussing through the communication the Buggers had used, and told Ender, “We did not mean to murder, and when we understood, we never came again.” (109). While Ender knew he was training to lead humanity, he did not want to fight to the death for victory, he sought for peace and understanding.…

Take a good look at him, little boys.
