Edward Jonas Legacy Fountain Analysis

Edward Jonas’ Legacy Fountain (fig. 1), represents the transition of Florida State College for Women to the college we know is as today Florida State University. With six statues in total in the fountain Jonas’ shows this transition by incorporating a wall of water between the two halves of the fountain. I believe this fountain was built to commemorate this transition and be a main focal point of Landis Green and the university as it was a huge moment in Florida State Universities history.
When looking at the fountain it is clear there is a reason for the splitting of the six statues by a wall of water. On the side closes to Landis Hall there are three female statues, who appear to be more reserved which was for a reason as they represent Florida State College for Woman. As well all three statues appear to be white

For example, the water I believe is another example of the reflection of the past as water has a reflective property, symbolizing how the fountain was built to show the transition of the college from Florida State College for Woman to Florida State University. Another aspect of the fountain is both sides show the crest of the school it depicts, on the side closest to Landis Hall it shows the crest of Florida State College for Woman whereas the side closer to Strozier Library shows the new crest of Florida State University furthermore showing the transition of one to the other.
In conclusion Edward Jonas’ Legacy Fountain, shows how Florida State University has put great effort into changing into the great university it is today. That it has changed to include everyone. As the fountain reflects on the past Florida State College for Woman to the Florida State University we know it to be today. A university which reflects upon its past but is actively changing to become a better university not only for themselves but for the students as

I love your choice and analysis of Geoffrey C. Smith’s sculpture of a sailfish in Stuart, Florida. But is the sculpture only representative of Stuart? Or could it represent something more? In other words I think that this statue represents not only Stuart perfectly but Florida as a whole. The full round three-dimensional sculpture represents Florida at each angle.…

To many other Detroit residents, they see the same thing, but to different degrees. For example, in 2004, two white American men painted The Fist white in protest of two white police officers killed recently while on duty. They left a sign saying, “courtesy of fighting whites”. To those men, The Fist did not represent “Joe Louis, the boxer”; it represented “Joe Louis, the proud black man”. It represented something they were against, or even scared of, and that something is more than just Joe Louis himself, with all of these different reactions to the memorial, the conclusion that we can come to is that sculpture is deeper than just representing one man-it represents and…

In Adam Braun’s memoir and life guide “The Promise of a Pencil”, the speaker relates his journey of creating Pencils of Promise and the lessons learned along the way. He employs the rhetorical technique of flashback in a way that is both elucidating and memorable, establishing mood of unwitting self-indulgence in a tone that is both austere and sophomoric. Any college worth its salt has a motto, something to aspire to. At FIU it’s “Hope, Knowledge, Opportunity”. While sounding great in Latin, to me it expresses what a university does, not exactly what it's for.…

Summer-time in the city brought me to different parts of the MTA that I never encountered before. Riding on the A line for the first time, I found myself catching a glimpse of these little fellows as my train pulled into the 14th Street station. Small, whimsical, pudgy (yes, I said pudgy) statuettes depict commonplace figures, such as a grimacing police woman, an officer (guarding a ball of tin foil), a homeless man sleeping under the stairway (the statue was placed there deliberately, I should think) and many more. As I walked by these figures, I found myself thinking back to my high school history class. These figure look a lot like the cartoon newspaper drawings of the late 1800- early 1900s depicting the bankers and politicians…

The University of Florida is a very prestigious Division One school especially in football. In my research paper I will be talking about the history of Florida Gator football which began in 1906, and how the school started their football tradition. A man by the name of Steve Spurrier is the head coach who set them up for multiple national titles, and the current 3 national championships that they have, Chris Leak who played for them from 2003-2006 had a great contribution. Another legend who suited up in a gator uniform former Heisman winner Tim Tebow, talking about the history of the sports drink we know of today as Gatorade. A lot of people might not really know about their stadium to well which is called the swamp, which is one of the most difficult places to play in the nation.…

The hard marble helps to emphasize the strong noble composure that illuminates in her expression yet the slightly off white color further expresses the contrast between purity and strength. The pursed lips, and slightly lifted chin help to express that her eyes are looking across the room and that she is looking down on the passersby thus depicting her true nature as a goddess overlooking everyone from above. The patrons walking through the museum can catch her stare from across the gallery in a simple glance despite her eyes being so marvelously simple as compared to the rest of the statue.…

The Burnside Fountain’s original purpose was to provide a public source of water to people, dogs, and horses. The fountain was constructed as a memorial for a Worcester Lawyer named Samuel Burnside. In this essay I will compare and contrast using contextual factors two murals. The first is Emperor Justinian, Bishop Maximus and Attendants, a mosaic on the wall of the Sanctuary in Italy from the Byzantine era. The second being Raphael 's School of Athens, found on the wall of the Apostolic Palace, Rome painted during the Renaissance. Emperor Justinian, Bishop Maximianus and Attendants, was created for religious purposes, as was a lot of the art produced during the early Byzantine Empire. In 324 CE Constantine ‘ the Great’ was a Christian emperor who set up Constantinople, originally Byzantine, a city in the east as another city to rule Christianity from, alongside the capital Rome.…

I don’t normally like to turn my back on people, but I wanted to model the History Student Association’s new t-shirt.
