Summary Of Dynamic Interplay Of Depression And Perfection

Decent Essays
My purpose for managing my time was so I would do better this semester in school without becoming stressed. I wanted to get ahead in my work because I had a tendency to procrastinate on my school work. In the article “Dynamic Interplay of Depression, Perfectionism and Self-Regulation on Procrastination by Ozera, O’Callaghanb, Bokszczaninc, Edererd and Essaub stated that there is a relationship between not being self- regulated and procrastinating (2014). I feel like I can relate this because I normally make excuses when it comes to doing homework so I don’t have to do it and then put it off right before it’s due. They also said that perfectionism leads to depression but the person has such high standards that they put off the assignment (2014).

Life is an everlasting journey of growth and development. In order to grow we must first admit to our faults, and stop engaging in behaviors that hinder us from becoming a better version of ourselves. Self- destructive tendencies plagues our society, and it’s easy to become discouraged by the hate and malicious behaviors inflicted on civilians from law enforcement officers. The mass media only covers half of the story, and the likelihood of the story being the truth, is slim to none. Ever since I could remember, I have always had a passion for helping others.…

Depression or extreme sadness can cause a person to realize that things cannot be undone, and he may feel too sad to do anything (Garret & Garret, 2011). It tends to restrain most biological functions and drives like hunger, thirst, sex, movement, and exploration of the environment. Depression can prompt changes throughout one's life and it can be a result of too much stress. Stress reduces the brain’s innate ability to keep itself healthy. As a result, the hippocampus, which is the most vital part of the brain, shrinks and impacts negatively on both short-term memory functioning and learning abilities of a person.…

As Ferrari said, 20% of the American population are chronic procrastinators, but according to a study to examined by a student attending the University of York and a freelance journalist, Milana Knezevic (2012), over 70% of students exhibit procrastination. Through Knezevic’s article, Dr. Piers Steel, a professor at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne and an expert on human motivation and on why people but things off, says, “in your early 20s you’re still developing your pre-frontal cortex, home of the will power” (p. 1). The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain responsible for things such as planning, personality development, and many other complex behaviors. Knezevic uses his finding to argue that the “closer [someone] is to temptation of fun, the more likely [they] are to indulge. In other words, when given the opportunity to do something else more entertaining, the person is more likely to push off their important tasks to have fun.…

Of all the movements America has gone through since its inception, I believe the realism movement best-aligns itself with who I am as a person. I believe that we, as humans, are nothing more than a collection of atoms, just like every space-occupying thing in our universe, and that we are no more significant than any other object. A way this belief translates to my every-day life is how I am not a religious person. Most of the popular religions teach that humans are somehow “special”, and they are more important than, say, your bedside lamp; I disagree completely. This ties in directly with the accepting reality element of the realism movement.…

My Action Plan During this semester, I have discovered useful information about myself, and as I move forward, I will be using the various learning tools and skills. However, before deciding how to improve my methods of learning plan, I took the time to review my transcripts/advising worksheet. By doing this, it has helped me determine exactly how many credits I have left, along with the type of classes. Including those, which are not part of my core curriculum. I need forty-nine credits overall, I have eighteen scheduled over the next two semesters, which includes the ones I am taking right now.…
