The objective of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is to “prepare nurse leaders at the highest level of nursing practice to improve patient outcomes and translate research into practice”, while Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) “prepare nurses at the highest level of nursing science to conduct research to advance the science of nursing” (AACN, 2014). DNP focus on practice career, improving patient care outcomes and community health while PhD focus on research so as to build new body of knowledge (AACN, 2014)
I have a lot of interest in research and mainly its implementation in patient care. DNP would offer me an option to practice in patient care and incorporate the new body of knowledge and so factors remaining constant, DNP would be my choice.
