The article, “The Evil Swirling Darkness” by Lauren Tarshis, said that people ignored the first signs of warning that a tornado was coming. This shows that danger can be real, even if you don’t think it is. For example, the text states that, “The family prayed for the safety of their missing relatives.” There were survivors, and they had hardships in and after the disaster. There are many effects of tornados.…

is a heavily fact dependent piece where Joan Acocella reviews the theories of why we have hang-overs. She also include the biological reactions like experiencing withdrawal, dehydration, inflammation due to cytokines, and congeners. With these in mind she then continues on explaining how genetics have a crucial role in your chance of contracting a hangover. She claims that if your genes have less alcohol dehydrogenase in them you’re more than likely to have a negative response, like a hangover, to alcohol. While others experience little withdrawal symptoms and can break down alcohol better making them able to have a higher tolerance and a lower chance of a hangover.…

The writings of New York Times Best Selling author Stephanie Meyer are fundamentally unexceptional to those of Tamora Pierce due to the lack of technique, writing devices, and characterization in Meyer’s books that are cleverly worked into Pierce’s writings. Meyer’s books are not only written poorly, but portray a static, tiresome protagonist and a mind-numbing and repetitious plot in her four most popular works that make up the Twilight Saga. In contrast, Pierce has developed two fantasy worlds and provided a unique storyline for each of her twenty-seven novels. Genre and personal taste aside, the syntax and technique of Meyer is poor compared to Pierce’s seasoned writing proficiency.…

Wendelin Van Draanen authored an inspiring novel known as The Running Dream. As a student-athlete, I could never imagine what the main character, Jessica, had to go through with a life-altering injury. Nevertheless, her persistence and exalting determination required me to hope I would react in the same way if I was put in a comparable situation. Similarly, J. K. Rowling influenced me to expand my imagination and live vicariously through the three young wizards in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The Harry Potter series is quite prominent in the realm of nonfiction and seems to leave a lasting impression on the Potterheads.…
