Personality characteristics of shooters became of interest because of the high death toll and types of victims involved in the occurrences of mass casualty incidents since the Columbine High School shootings in 1999. Vossekuil (2002) analysed thirty-seven incidents of targeted school violence in which he found common characteristic in the profiles of the offenders among the incidents. Like (author), Vossekuil (2002) identified that all of the attackers were males, and 95% of them were current students with 5% being former students; attackers worked alone in 81% of the incidents. Regarding the target involved, (author) found that school shooters appear to have a lack of specific individual target and the target is generally symbolic in nature.
