The student in the video is a student with a learning disability. In his previous school setting he struggled with participation in the large group setting due to his low reading level. At the beginning of the year C. told me that he often feels, “stupid in school.” He did not like reading and avoided reading as much as possible. His family said that in his previous school he sat in the classroom quietly for fear of being asked a question that he might not know the answer too. Additionally, his mother said that he takes a long to answer questions and he needed additional time to process information. She said at his previous school his teacher would usually not give him as much wait time as he needed. Knowing this detailed background information …show more content…
These goals in his IEP are written yearly. By the end of next year, he will be to be able to use a graphic organizer independently with a passage he reads and one that is read to him. The lesson completed with this student provides direct connections and practice with C’s long term goal of increasing reading comprehension and using a graphic organizer. With this lesson, C is given exposure and practice using a graphic organizer as well as reading …show more content…
Since we are a virtual school, our lessons are conducted using Black Board Collaborate technology with PowerPoint lessons. Lesson formats at our virtual school may include lecture with little or no student participation except for note taking or lessons that allow for students to use their mic and whiteboard tools. Additionally, students may be asked to use multiple choice polling tools to answer questions or communicate using the box. In this lesson, C could use the whiteboard tools and type directly on the whiteboard. My rational for choosing increased computer participation was due to knowing that C likes using the computer and technology in the classroom. In a typical large group classroom, C does not get many opportunities to use the tools of the virtual classroom. I made sure he had the opportunity to use those tools in our virtual classroom. I also used engaging materials with the selection of the reading passage on a topic (dogs) that I knew C would

Doing clinical observations are very important because it gives a change to see student and teacher interactions first hand and get to see how well a student is responding. During my observations at Biddeford Intermediate School, I got the change to shadow an Ed. Teach in a life skills room. This was a great opportunity for me because it was a chance to see another kind of intervention done in the special education department. I have done many observations with an occupational therapist, and they have always been in lighting and very educational, but to visit a life skills room gave me more perspective on the special education department as a whole.…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 1635 hours, I was contacted at home by Sergeant Bernard Hopkins to respond to 15950 North Civic Center Plaza #1013 to conduct a homicide investigation. At 1730 hours, I arrived and was eventually briefed by Sergeant Dalton #5174 of the circumstances of events up to that point. After the briefing Sergeant Hopkins assigned me to conduct the crime scene investigation. The classroom was originally secured by Phoenix Police Department prior to the search warrant being signed. At 1830 hours, I started the crime scene investigation by directing evidence technicians Tyson #1234 and Jones Jr.#5678 to take overall photographs of the scene.…

I had the pleasure of observing Wendy Brown. Ms. Brown teaches first through fifth grade special need students. She teaches math and language arts by being a co-teacher, and she also teaches in the resource room. Her students never called her Ms. Brown, but they called her Ms. Wendy. During my observations I experienced how Ms. Wendy taught in a co-teacher setting, how she taught in a resource room setting, and how the students react when things change in the classroom.…

This observation was supposed to take place someplace outside of my comfort zone. Outside of my comfort zone would typically be any place outside of my home town Islip. I chose to make my observations at the West Islip Public Library which is ironically not as close as one would expect to be from Islip. To begin my observations, I parked my car in the parking lot and peered out my windows. In front of me was a black Chevy SUV.…

While at my observation this morning, the teacher would step in and help children when they were fighting for a toy, or when one of the children turned off the computer while he was playing, and he did not know how to turn it back on to keep doing this painting game. 2. How does the teacher actively listen to children? There was a little boy during what looked like it was “free choice time” that was playing a painting game in the computer.…

I volunteered at the Buckner-Aldine Family Hope Center for two and a half hours helping with a class called Jobs for Life. The purpose of the class is to help the adults taking it learn the skills necessary to become employable and succeed in the workforce. The class consisted of all women, mostly homemakers. Since this was the second time the class met, the main focus was reading through three chapters of the textbook for the class and creating a vision board.…

On Wednesday, February 15th, I observed one of the three 4th grade classes at Thomas A. Edison Elementary School in Port Chester, New York. There were twenty-four students in the class that day, 99% of the students were Hispanic, six of them were English Language Learners, eight of them had IEPs, and one child had a 504 plan due to a lost limb. Class started with their morning routine; Ms. Simmons greeted the children as they walked into the classroom, they hung up their backpacks in the closet and gathered their notebooks for the day. There were four children helpers who were assigned specific jobs as taking attendance, collecting homework, taking lunch orders, and collecting field trip forms. During this time the teacher sat on a corner table…

On November 28, 2017, I spent my fourth day with class 3-213 at P.S. 45. During this time, I felt I was able to confidently encounter, converse, and assist the children with varying subject matters. At this point, the children even felt comfortable enough to ask me for help. Additionally, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Jessica Diaz, is still extremely helpful and even allows me to teach the students in small-groups. By working in small-groups, I have been able to facilitate learning on an individualized level.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…
