Summary Of Civil Peace

In Civil Peace, we see a man who has lost all materialistic items and a son. We see how war has affected his country and how totally damaged everything is. You’d think that this man, Jonathan, would be bitter. You’d think that he’d be angry at the world, but the opposite is actually what happens. He praises God every time something “good” happens. For example, he finds his house still standing, but with the windows shattered and roof falling apart. Instead of wishing that it could’ve been a better shelter, he’s just ecstatic for the fact that he has a house to be in.
The story opens up with Jonathan and his family scavenging the ground around their house. It progresses to how that his family is trying to find ways to make money. Jonathan
