Some patients do not speak the same language as the pharmacist and because of this, it is very difficult to counsel a person. Therefore, it is very important to have a good rapport with regular customers and different techniques can be used to get the point across such as sign language or using charts and diagrams to ensure that the patient has understood all the information provided. However, education on addiction provided to pharmacists is not satisfactory – they should have enough training to counsel effectively, and help prevent addiction. For instance, Dr. Lynn Lafferty, Pharm. D., a licensed pharmacist who is devoted to discovering the most effective way to endorse wellbeing, states a questionnaire indicates, “A majority of responding pharmacists (67.5%) reported participating in two hours or less of addiction/substance abuse education in pharmacy school” (Lafferty 3). More than half of pharmacists do not have enough knowledge to handle the complexities of addiction, and it is upsetting since addiction can happen to anyone on a psychoactive substance. Also, patient’s health is in pharmacists care when they dispense medication hence, they should be first to identify addictions.…

I recently had the chance to listen to an entertaining lecture by Dr. Wes Pilkington. As he began talking, I could tell that his speech was going to be somewhat different than those I had heard before him. While he did not do a residency and was not extensively involved in leaderships roles like many of our other speakers, he has still found success after graduation. Although these activities are both important, he highlighted the significance of our rotations. He also offered us a unique perspective on the dangers of pharmacy, as he was the victim of a pharmacy robbery.…

The more empathetic and understanding the pharmacist is, the more compliant the patient will be and the better the patient’s outcome will be. Also, the more empathetic the pharmacist is, the more the patient will trust the pharmacist and the better the pharmacist-patient relationship will be. For example, the study done with effects on the common cold showed that patients who rated their physician as having perfect empathy had better immune responses, less severe colds, and shorter cold duration. If I visited a pharmacy with a severe cold and a prescription for cough medicine, I would assign a CARE score of 44 to the average pharmacist. I used to work at Fred’s Pharmacy in Water Valley, and I based my chosen CARE score on how the pharmacists I worked with treated their patients.…
