Nick lists off many of the guests who attended Gatsby’s parties throughout the summer. Some of the guests are the wealthiest and most powerful in the country, and include people of professions like doctors and socialites.
Gatsby arrives at Nick’s house and invites him into the city for lunch. He drives Nick to lunch in his Rolls-Royce and asks Nick what he thinks of him.
Gatsby tells Nick about his past as he didn’t want Nick to “get a wrong idea” of him from all the rumours passed around.
Gatsby tells Nick:
He inherited his money from his deceased parents.

Gatsby is pulled over for speeding through the valley of ashes but produces a card from the police commissioner and the policeman apologises and lets Gatsby go. Gatsby tells Nick, “I was able to do the commissioner a favor once, and he sends me a Christmas card every year.”
Gatsby introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfsheim: a shady character rumoured to have fixed the 1919 World Series.
Wolfsheim gives Nick the impression that Gatsby is involved organised crime due to their connection.
They run into Tom Buchanan while at lunch and Nick introduces him to Gatsby.
The next time Nick meets up with Jordan again, he finally finds out what it was her and Gatsby had spoken about.
In 1917, back when Daisy was just eighteen and living in Louisville, she fell in love with Jay Gatsby.
Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby when he had to leave for the war, but by the next year she had accepted Tom Buchanan’s proposal of marriage.
The night before her wedding, Daisy drank herself to the point of numbness as she held a letter sent from Gatsby. It appeared she did not want to marry Tom.
The next day at five o’clock, she married Tom Buchanan “without so much as a
