Caitlin has grown in so many ways throughout the book. At the beginning of the book Caitlin was socially struggling. Throughout the book Caitlin slowly made friendships. Caitlin never liked group projects so when Caitlin was invited into a group with Emma and her friends she was surprised and accepted the offer. The girls in Caitlin’s group were very welcoming and encouraging because they let Caitlin do the drawing, her favorite thing to do. During the course of the group project Caitlin and the girls created strong bonds and friendships. During the book Caitlin and Josh had some fire between them. Caitlin still gets very angry and yells at other people. She yelled at her dad to drive her to the Michael’s school play. “I’M WARNING YOU! I say in my warning voice. CAITLIN! DRIVE! DRIVE! DRIVE! FAST! NOW!” (199) Caitlin was being disrespectful and she didn't even notice. She was not showing any empathy for her dad. She blocked out everything else and just focused on getting there. Also, at the beginning of the book Caitlin sucked on her sleeve when she was nervous and throughout the book continued to do so. For Caitlin sucking her sleeve is a comforting like sucking your thumb is comforting for a baby. Caitlin sucks her sleeve whenever and wherever she feels insecure and uncomfortable. The kids at Caitlin’s school think that sucking your sleeve is a weird and unusual thing to do but, the sucking her sleeve is apart of what makes Caitlin special and unique. The disorder, Asperger’s syndrome effects include light to be really bright and noises to be too loud. At the end of the book, Caitlin decides to donate or give Devon’s chest to Virginia Dare Middle School. And because of Caitlin’s generous donation, a ceremony was held to present the chest in front of the whole community. “I DON’T LIKE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS of the middle school aurodium……” (221) “ The noise keeps making me want to jump out of my seat and I can’t hold myself down…..” (222) Caitlin still cannot stand loud noises or bright
