Race relations should not be limited to one, we as citizens of America must soon realize that “we are no longer a black-white nation (¶18).” From this quote Rodriguez is informing his readers and states how we should aim to move from this binary white and black compartmentalized thinking, and strive toward the adoption of a mestizaje society which would be one that is a blend of races and doesn’t categorize each person into specific categories. Personally we should not try to prevent other races from joining in on imperative decision making events, like “in 1997, Gallup conducted a survey on race relations in America, but the poll was concerned only with white and black Americans (¶3).” As you can see from this quote just how far many Americans will go to block other races from being part of many crucial moments in America.
