• Bilbo decides to sneak out of the mountain and into the camp to reveal himself. He offers them the Arkenstone which would be a good item to use as a bargaining chip. When Bilbo heads back to the mountain he meets Gandalf who appreciates his bravery.
• The army comes to negotiate about the retrieval of the gold in the mountain. The Arkenstone is revealed and Thorin becomes furious after Bilbo reveals he was the one who stole the stone. Thorin plans to retrieve the stone by force from the new approaching dwarf army. The dwarves arrive and before battle ensues, an army of wargs and goblins come to try and take the gold for themselves. The dwarves, elves, and humans unite and they fight the Wargs and goblins. Bilbo is also saddened to find out that Thorin is at death’s door and apologizes to Bilbo for his harshness. Bilbo also finds out that Fili and Kili have been killed as well.
• The hobbit is awarded a large sum of money form Bard. Dain is made the new King under the Mountain. Bilbo begins his adventure back home with Gandalf. When he returns home he finds out that he had been presumed dead and his belongings were currently being sold to others. He retrieves some of his belongings but is no longer respected in the community because of his wild adventures, but Bilbo doesn’t mind.

• The Rebel – Thorin becomes greedy and makes his own decisions for the party. He decides that he will have his army take back the Arkenstone by force. He has become greedy and received and unfortunate ending.

As the story progresses, the need for this gold becomes stronger and stronger until eventually a war breaks out. Tolkien showed the consequences and revealed the solution. “‘There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!’".
