Analysis Of Dr. Bernard Roth's The Achievement Habit

Motivating, that’s a word that describes Bernard Roth very well. Dr. Bernard Roth has touched the lives of many people. He is a longtime faculty member of Stanford University’s Design school. The PhD holder has educated young college students to professionals in the workforce. In his first chapter of The Achievement Habit, Roth clearly states that “Nothing is what you think it is" (Roth 13). does an impeccable job at convincing readers about this key point in the chapter one of his book. Furthermore, the way writes this book is fully covered by the Aristotle’s Triangle. Ethos, pathos and logos are the three parts to the triangle. Pegs to a stool, all three; ethics, logic and empathy are thoroughly intertwined to grant insight to aspiring minds. For some, it may lay dormant for much of the day, but for others, others possess the readiness to critique is awake and barely idle from before dawn and much after dusk. A person might reside somewhere in the middle or at either extreme of that spectrum, they are entitled to that opinion. Incidentally, there are those that disagree with the methods of Bernard Roth and his Stanford Design school thinking; from the simplest of minds to even the most intuitive minds, there are students and colleagues who refute the efficiency of his methods. To emphasize, in the book, there is an exercise explained in a section emboldened as: “My Daughter Has No Meaning" (Roth 18). A mother is asked to repeat, “has no meaning,” after materialistic things to essentially release their burden upon her mentally and empower her to make the decisions about what really matters in her own life. Unwilling, the mother refuses to entertain the idea of ever being able to repeat the phrase “my daughter has no meaning" (Roth 18). Some would agree with this sentiment and retain the belief that Roth’s teachings can be overwhelming due to their own
