According to the essay “A Quilt of a Country” by Anna Quindlen the forces that connect people in the United States are common enemies like terrorism since tragedy unites the people of America. The United States is not just any country like when Quindlen says “Other countries with such division have in fact divided into new nations with new names, but not this one, impossibly interwoven even in its hostilities.” When Quindlen says this she is talking about the United States being united when other countries would have divided. The United States is a different country than any other country and that idea of tragedy unites instead of separating and going their own ways.
