As the kid in the middle fell towards me, he waited for the reassuring hands of me to save him but I had other ideas. The kid continued to fall but just before he hit the floor, I saved him. “Wow, sorry!” I said. My face had a mocking image, however, that was my biggest mistake. “Out!” “Uh, oh,” I said under my breath. Arby was coming over and he did not look happy to see me. “You, out of this company! Go home!”

It gets stupidly hot in Danielsville, Louisiana, especially around summer. This would be fine I guess if we had something to do, to keep our mind off of the heat but there isn’t anything to do. Danielsville, Louisiana has three churches (Pentecostal), twice as many bars, one high school and no books stores or libraries. This means you’re either too drunk to read, or too Christian to read anything good. Big enough to have a mayor’s house, but not big enough to be on any map of any kind, it’s the kind of town where everyone knows your name and basically everything about you.…

“Len, come on! We’re going to be late,” Lisa called to me, pulling a cap onto her head. It is 3 am in the morning and I can not believe that I ended up here. The Nazi police are all surrounding me with their guns loaded aiming for me. It does not seem real, but they actually caught me. I held the soft, velvet fur coat in my freezing hands, I did not know what to say or do. “Miep Gies, you are going to be taken in for questioning,” spoke the Nazi man who wore a dark green outfit from head to toe.…

Gramma called me into her room, “Would you draw a face on this doll I’m making?” “Oh Gramma, I don’t know, what if I mess up?” “You draw such beautiful eyes,” she said, handing me a marker. I was over there to do laundry, sometimes I would just go to the laundry mat, it went faster and wasn’t very far from the house. But I liked spending time with my mom and gramma, I missed them, even though we talked everyday on the phone.…

Puffy white flakes of snow blew toward and across the windshield as we drove down the highway. It was still only October and yet the Alaskan landscape was blanketed in white. This far north the first snow had arrived early and stayed, not melting away like it usually did in Pennsylvania. "So much for global warming," joked Scott, over the CB.…

CHAPTER NINE Tramp through Terror I packed quickly for our road trip, taking only the essentials, like a change of clothes, and three pairs of socks. Oh, and the usual sundries: a comb, small bottle of hand sanitizer, shampoo, first aid kit, soap, and a flashlight. I also crammed Zeke Bartholomew: Superspy into my bag, just in case I got time to read. After I was done, I tossed my bed together and tugged on a pair of jeans and a shimmering skull T-shirt.…

A Writer’s Life: Flexibility “Hi, Dr. Pan” I waved at my English teacher, hoping to not regret it in the next five minutes. Greeting teachers was really a hit or miss; either they wanted to start an awkward conversation or it was just a simple hi and bye. “Hello, Brittany” greeted Dr. Pan. I patiently stood there, waiting to be released from the awkwardness that is talking to your teacher in the hallways.…

Fourteen eons ago, in the dominion of Mahismati, every human was supervised by its gods or goddesses, and portrayed the most idyllic mankind; but amidst the many gods materialized a god with the most exquisite virtues of them all. His inner beauty and his sagacious mind provoked the most despondent spirits. Akash Mitra, the god of morality, was picturesque and quintessential, both physically and lustfully. He existed as a purist, as he himself knew that, but plumly, he was a shoddy one. Even the most exemplary purists make some blunders, but till this hapless day, he had made no omission, laying a hurdle in his communal correlation with the other gods and goddesses.…
