Research Design Setting The settings in which this data was collected were vocational rehabilitation centers in each state in the United States. Each year, service providers are required to enter data into a national database regarding individuals who have exited vocational rehabilitation programs under their care. This data is organized into a national dataset, which contains each exiting participant. Exits are interchangeably described as “closures” and fall into seven different closure categories.…
The data collected from Behavioral Treatment Services (BTS) was manually entered to help the researcher analyze the data. The data was organized into columns and described using the following nominal variables as column headings: treatment outcome, trauma cohort, ethnicity, and race. education level, and referral source. The trauma cohort was coded as 0 for no trauma group and 1 for trauma group. Age and education level were entered using the numerical value pulled from BTS archives with U indicating any age or education level which was unspecified.…
Participant A 1. Would you rather wear a laundered shirt that had been previously worn by someone you like, someone you dislike, or someone you don’t know? Please explain. Within this mini study survey, my participant responded that it did not matter if the clothing was laundered from someone he liked or someone he disliked or even from a complete stranger as long as the clothing was washed.…
Individual Analysis: ACCJC Background Reviewing recent reports surrounding the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) reveals that there are many issues that have been proposed in regard to the efficiency and efficacy of their accreditation processes (CITE). For this reason, many feel that the ACCJC is not meeting their obligation to maintain institutional quality. In the following sections, I will discuss what issues specifically the ACCJC is having in terms of maintenance of institutional quality and what recommendations have been suggested for the commission to improve it’s accreditation processes. These recommendations were derived—in some cases—by comparing the ACCJC to other accrediting commissions and modeling…
There are multiple methods of payment in the health care field. However, there are four major payment methods utilized by health care facilities. The first method is historical cost reimbursement. Even though a majority of facilities have migrated away from this form of method, there are some that still utilize this method due to the regulated cost reimbursement system is believed to monitor quality of care and in specific settings. Historical cost reimbursement is based on two aspects.…
Longitudinal cohorts have been widely used in epidemiological studies. These cohorts have been vital for the discovery of important risk factors associated with various diseases and public health issues in the last few decades (refs). Long term follow up of these cohorts will continue to provide valuable data that will lead to the discovery of novel risk factors associated with disease. One of the most important issue with longitudinal studies is the missing data at each follow up time (refs).…

Problem Statement and Research Question The underutilization and lack of knowledge of state prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) of providers in the emergency department (ED) setting is contributing to opioid related misuse, addictions and overdoses. The prescribing of opioid medications has evolved into an epidemic with the number of opioid prescriptions quadrupling in the last 14 years in the US leading to increased addiction, overdose and misuse (Greenwood-Ericksen et al., 2016). The ED is the most commonly used location to seek care for pain and these providers account for 25% of all opioids prescribed contributing to overdose, addiction and misuse (Allen, Jewers & McDonald, 2014). PDMPs allow providers to track the disbursement…
Within the changing landscape of healthcare reform, demographics have become increasingly more important in the decisions that are made concerning the health and well-being of the citizens within a specific geodemographic area. With geodemographic documentation, the needs of both the community and patient can be determined to establish best practices in healthcare. Changes in population, age, race, and other demographics are evaluated annually to support and identify targeted needs. As we become a nation where our elderly population is growing daily, a paradigm shift must occur within the industry to be prepared to market and meet the needs of this generation. Population aging, named for the rapid growth of the elderly, challenges public health,…
This article is about a cross-sectional, descriptive study that was conducted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the summer of 2003. The objective of the study was to determine if the location of where a non-perception drug was sold (pharmacy vs. convenience store) would change the perception of that drug with consumers. A sample of 2102 people was mailed a questionnaire in which 1,296 people replied. The questionnaire consisted of seven parts: information about non- prescription purchases and use, information seeking behavior relevant to non-prescription medications, experience with common minor symptoms, perception of non-prescription medications, perception of pharmacists, expectations of non-prescription medication and demographic characteristics…
Healthcare professionals are faced with important decisions every day that can mean the difference between life and death. Clinicians use evidence from research, clinical expertise and patient’s preferences to make clinical decisions. Often, the available evidence is so vast that finding the appropriate course of action becomes a daunting process. Consequently, the critical appraisal of evidence has become a valuable skill to clinicians. Evidence is ranked in a hierarchy system.…

Creswell (2014) explains that Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches are three approaches to research. He defines qualitative research as “An approach for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem” (p. 4). Creswell and Poth (2017) discuss in great details their five qualitative approaches to inquiry: narrative, phenomenological, grounded theory, ethnographic, and case study. They recommend to researchers to identify clearly their qualitative inquiry approach for their work to be classified as scholarly study. My case study qualitative research aims to explore if there is a relationship between the use of technology when teaching math and reduced anxiety of math in ninth…
Since it was my first exposure to US health care system so I was excited from the very start. I rotated here in departments of Internal Medicine and Cardiology for four weeks. Most interesting part of this rotation was to observe various procedures in cath lab on almost daily basis. Maintenance of blood flow by placement of a stent in a stenosed vessel and practically observing the placement of pacemaker in heart blocks really fascinated me. I liked presenting cases in morning rounds and learned a lot from noticing the gradual improvement in patients during their stay in the hospital.…
Background: Antibiotics have changed the face of medicine. They are used by almost everyone but a lot of lapse is seen between their usage and awareness about them. A lot of problems stem from this issue which are getting in the way of their effective use. There is an immense need to address this matter and this was the driving force behind this research.…
