(1) As previously stated, I and nine other students and faculty traveled on a ten-day trip to Peru. Exploring Art, Culture, and Service in Peru was the focus of the trip. Two days were dedicated to volunteering at Yachay Wasi. When we arrived at the school, we participated in the children's daily songs. Once the students went to class, we went to work. The head of the school divided into groups, each focusing on one project. My group's task was to cultivate and organize the abandoned garden. The next day, we finished planting and decided to spruce up the garden by corralling the areas with rocks we painted. All of the groups were able to come together in the end by painting the wooden playground at the school. The children painted their palms and placed their handprints on the playset. After, I washed each of the children's hands. I met a young Peruvian girl. Speaking in Spanish, I asked her what was her age. She told me she was three years old. She asked me why my nails are white, being painted white. I told her it was because I liked to paint them and it is very common in the United States. She was not used to seeing people with their nails painted. She was also interested in my iPhone, especially the front-facing camera. She started taking pictures of herself and playing with her hair.
