Mishap at the Burial Site
Mistakes are made in every industry and funeral directors services are no exception. Even though the clients of these men and women are already dead, the mistakes can be just as horrible to the deceased’ family members as if they were alive. While there are many mistakes that can, and are, unfortunately made in this field, one surpasses them all; that is leaving of jewelry on the deceased instead of removing it prior to burial. There are several causes for such negligence, just as there are a multitude of costly effects that arise from it.

When looking into the causes of such a mistake to make, human error just does not cover it. It is more than just some funeral director making a minor mistake. The first step is to realize what has happened, who was involved and document Who?, What?, When?, Where?, and How? Next the funeral home will contact their legal representive and explain the mishap. They will also contact their insurance agency and aware them of what is going on. This is to be done the day of the case opening so that all of the strings are tied on the funeral homes end per se. According to Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home General Manager ,Willard Haas, “This mishap is very stressful not only for the family but is also very stressful on the funeral home and its staff. It makes you think that the procedures you have in place are not work and you have to look to see that this does not happen again this does not happen again.” Being sued is a very tragic thing for the funeral home. Like all business it takes money to operate. When you get a big chunk of money taken from you it is hard. Plus word of mouth makes it bad for your business.
