Mellon Internship Scholarship Application Seeing myself as a self-motivated individual who strives at overcoming new obstacles, I feel that the York County Heritage Trust would be an ideal fit for me since it would provide me with many opportunities to refine and apply some of my knowledge that I was able to learn through my history and anthropology classes. Along with using my research skills to provide a more hands-on experience with different types of artifacts and have a more grounded understanding when it comes to the events of the past. I enjoy working with a team because I see it as beneficial to see others rendition on the current task. However, I am also easily flexible if it comes to managing solo projects.

I was lucky enough to interview Brad Ciolek the scouting administrator for the Baltimore Orioles. Brad and I had our discussion on the phone over fall break, which lasted about 30-40 minutes. Mr.Ciolek told me that after playing high school baseball, he decided that he enjoyed baseball so much that he wanted to attempt to make a career out of it. While discussing his professional life with me, I found out that Brad attained this position through interning with the Orioles in 2011; briefly leaving the organization and returning in 2013 when a job opening presented itself. Mr. Ciolek is very important to the Orioles organization due to the fact that he is in charge of roughly 700 players scouting reports each year.…

As part of my leadership course at Grand Canyon University I was assigned to volunteer/internship in an experience that would enrich my future career. I was very fortunate to work out an agreement with the Director of Security and Safety at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona and the home of the NHL Arizona Coyotes. My current career has me working at the University of Phoenix Stadium over seeing responsibilities in security and guest services. By volunteering to work at an NHL arena, I felt it would give me insight on how other professional sporting facilities operate with the belief I would gain some experience and takeaways that would become better at my current job and possibly expose me to a bigger world within the sports/entertainment industry. During my time working at the arena I kept journal entries of each of the games that I worked at and used those documents to help reflect on what knowledge I have gained and how my Grand Canyon University experience enhanced my volunteer involvement.…

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

I was born and raised in Michigan. I grew up in an area known as Downriver, where I still reside today. My high school and the barn where I work/volunteer are both within 3 miles of my home, which is why moving to Michigan State University in East Lansing to join the other 50,000 undergraduate students was such a substantial change. I’ve always been adaptable and driven to succeed, so the adjustment to life in East Lansing was not a difficult one for me. Since I’ve been enrolled as a student at Michigan State University, I was granted the extraordinary opportunity to work at the Michigan State University Horse Teaching & Research Center while also being involved in both the Stock Seat Equestrian Team and the Horse Judging Team where I’ve been extremely successful.…
