President Obama and his wife, Michelle, often are victims of the media, due to the fact that Obama is the president and society’s highly constructed expectation of a high public figure. Black people, according to Sykes, has always acted differently around white people, maybe the general public, because society has had a negative connotation on black culture for a long time, especially in America. Sykes brings up her childhood, when she was in the car with her mother on their way to somewhere, when she hears a song on the radio that she likes and starts dancing. Sykes’ mother tells her to stop dancing, because a bunch of white people were watching her dance as they drove by. Sykes’ simple dancing story is an example of how people often have their public self and their private self. Since Obama is now in power, society changed in a manner, where black people can now act loose, for they feel they don’t have to be scared of their private self anymore; they can finally bring out their private self into the
