Ralph had been hiding for days (he had lost track at this point) in the woods behind a huge, thick bush. He had no clue how Jack and the savages had not yet found him, but all he could think of at the moment was how thirsty and hungry he was. Once he got up, he ran as fast he could, often falling over rocks and running against branches and thorns, which left gashes all over him. He was so famished that vision of the past few weeks began to enter his mind that he believed it was real. He saw himself blowing on the conch for a meeting, he saw himself being nominated as the chief, and he saw himself talking to all the littuns. He missed those days, those days when he had a carefree mindset and he was just an innocent boy. Thinking back on everything, …show more content…

He had seen the horrors that the children on this island had committed, horrors that he thought little boys were never capable of. The one positive aspect from all of this was that he had grown smarter and more aware of his surroundings. Ralph would be sure from now on to never trust anyone again, no matter how friendly or welcoming they were, he knew he had to look out for his best interests. Even though he was hiding and he has a good chance of being killed, Ralph still hoped that someone was going to find him so he could home and try to fix his broken heart. While thinking this, Ralph had an epiphany and decided that he was going to go and find Ralph and settle this fair and square with him. He got up, with a gleam of hope in his eye, and he ran as fast as a …show more content…
As Ralph was waiting, he saw that Jack and the boys were marching towards his direction, but they had not spotted him. Ralph decided to get into position, and he grabbed his stick with a shaking hand. Even though Ralph had no idea how this would end he knew he had to confront them, he did not want to run any longer. He slowly made his way towards the boys without them noticing. “Hey you savages! I am here now! Come and get me!” Ralph screamed at the boys. Immediately, all the boys had turned on him and were holding their weapons, ready to go whenever Jack gave the command. “You savages are not necessary. I came here to talk to Jack and Jack only. I want to settle this like a man, face to face.” Ralph stated, with an air of authority. “This should be funny. Alright go ahead and speak,” Jack

Ralph is the personification of Social equality and the protagonist of the story. He is one of the eldest boys on the island and by default a eligible candidate for the leadership position and a Crouch-holder.
