With rising health care costs and the high harm and mortality rate of hospital acquired infections nurses must continue to deliver their care based on best practice and available evidence. There is always a need to continually update practices to improve patient’s outcomes. Benchmarks have been set for state and national levels to be achieved by year 2020. Joint Commission and organizations, such as the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, have set quality improvement goals by implementing the Central Line Insertion and Maintenance bundle to reduce central line infections.
