A summary is an abbrieviated version of a literary work. It should include the title and the author of the text. According to Howcast’s How to write a summary (2010), it should include a thesis statement that will detail the author’s main idea and all the supporting points from the text. Basically one should be able to grasp the message that the original author was trying to convey. As far as which tone to use, it all depends on the type of text and who the intended audience is. One should consider the audience in order to determine the vocabulary used as well.
