Summary: How Has Donald Trump Devalued American Politics?

Decent Essays
Abstract: In summary, Tom Brearley-Smith will be discovering key aspects of Donald Trump’s business career and Presidency in order to answer the question: “How has Donald Trump devalued American politics?” This extended project answers this question by examining key policies that Trump has implemented as President of the United States as well as investigating his thoughts and beliefs on current issues in the USA. Another important component of answering the question is looking into Trump’s psychology as this provides a fascinating inside into how he thinks, which is critical in explaining why he has fundamentally diminished the core values of America and its politics. In this case, the project explains Trump might have malignant narcissism.

Donald Trump fueled the alt-right, which is a mix of rightist online phenomena including everything from 4chan to neo-Nazi sites and stimulated the online culture wars (Nagle 11). The way in which Trump could put out many different tweets showed those on the extreme level that he did not have to say things in a certain way and many people agreed with the way in which he handled things. This was especially true with Roosh V, a pickup artist and neo-masculinist, who wrote a series of books in which he went to different countries to find different strategies to manipulate and coax women to have sex (Nagle 89). Roosh V saw Trump’s victory as a win for his movement saying, “we now have a President who rates women on a 1-10 scale in the same way that we do” (Nagle 90). This shows that people would take some of what Donald Trump would say to the extreme and in turn create papers, series, and online memes that could potentially cause a conflict with others including liberals and feminists.…

He also causes all to receive the Mark of the Beast on their bodies which will control all buying and selling (system). This mark is directly linked to the name and number of the Antichrist. The last clause in Daniel 11:38 says, “he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones and treasures.” Not only will this god be strong, not only will it be something new, the creators of such a monstrosity will spare no expense in making it attractive.…

The most interesting detail I learned from the books is that a candidate being able to connect with voters is one of the most important things a candidate must do to win the presidency. It can be seen in the 1992 election as Clinton was able to connect with people and make them believe that change was possible. Bush in this election was unable to connect and so even though he was president when the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union fell, he was unable to win the presidency. I believe this connects quite perfectly with the current election. Donald Trump was able to maybe not necessarily connect with voters, but he able to connect more than Hillary Clinton was able to.…

It was a great, huge, and beautiful Tuesday morning in New York City. It was 79 degrees and perfect outside, believe me. The escalators in Trump Tower glistened like they had just been cleaned as he descended to his podium where was going to announce his candidacy for president. Ever since that day America has been different; bigotry has become the norm. In attempt to understand the mind of The Don, and analyze how he thinks, it would be appropriate to read the book The Art of the Deal.…

Lisa McGirr’s book Suburban Warriors: The origins of the New American Right, published in 2001, examines the history of the conservative grassroots movement in Orange County, California during the 1960s and 1970s. With a “bottom up” lens, McGirr focused on ordinary people behind the grass-roots conservatism rather than the intellectual and political leaders. Historian Richard Hofstadter believed right-wing activists acted purely on their “psychological distress” rather than being motivated by a set of beliefs or “rational politics” (7). In response, McGirr argues that the ordinary people who created conservative grassroots were usually already involved with modernity. Many of them were mobile migrants who welcomed entrepreneurialism and already…

During the early 1980s, Americans of all races, sexes, and social statuses subscribed to the notion that one could be successful through hard work and determination. In his dark comedy Glengarry Glen Ross, David Mamet exposes this to be, as stated previously, nothing more than a notion. In this two-act play, working class men, including young and cunning salesman, Ricky Roma, do business in a sales office under the supervision of meek office manager John Williamson. The salesmen are forced into a competition within the office where the top salesman receives a Cadillac, and the two lowest salesmen of the month lose their jobs. As could be expected, the men try desperately to sell their real estate using any means necessary to close a deal, often…

The extent to which presidents invest emotional involvement ultimately affects how they define issues, and the principles they will associate with them. A president’s personality affects performance because of innate human drives, such as the universality of compliancy, detachment, and aggressiveness. Each and every person has different amounts and compositions of human drive. Accordingly, a president’s performance and decision-making skills are based on the composition of his human drive.…

Studying past presidencies through psychological analysis takes an angle we have not yet seen in so far. Rather than studying the big picture of history or on the history of a president’s constitutional powers, the psychological approach takes an individual, case-by-case approach to evaluate each president. For example, in Wayne’s book we saw how Obama’s personal life and campaign strategy shaped who he was as President of the United States. In class we reviewed other past presidents as well and made connections from their life growing up and predicted how this could shape their presidential characteristics. It is important to come into this approach knowing that our predictions are not definite or completely reliable.…

As a liberal-leaning democrat and daughter of an immigrant father, I should be the last to say that I think Donald Trump is an effective politician. But as much as it pains me to say it, he is. Like any “effective” politician, he responds to the polls before the people, to prominent media outlets before his own ideological views. Some may disagree; people will tell me that if anything, Trump has a way of voicing his opinions too freely. Those same people will say that his ability to “tell it like it is” might be the only reason he has been doing so well in the Republican polls.…

Written 230 years apart, President Donald Trump’s speech and the ideas expressed by the Anti-Federalists share some similar ideas. These ideas include subsidiarity as the most effective way of running an organization, momentum, and unity and identity. In President Donald Trump’s address to the Boy Scouts at the National Jamboree, he expresses views and ideas consistent with those of the Anti-Federalists. Trump tells the story of William Levitt, who was a successful small business owner who was bought out by a “big conglomerate.”…

The Political Spectacle is the idea of how politicians can manipulate public opinions and actions by diverting attention from more pressing social and political issues such as poverty, climate change, and racial inequalities. Many politicians take advantage of social constructs to draw attention to foreign threats. By doing so, they skillfully lessen the attention on domestic concerns. External threats tend to appeal to broader audiences and feed the fears of less informed individuals, whereas domestic problems seem to be focused on smaller sub-sets of individuals in a society. (Edelman, Pg. 28).…
