For example, when the stock market crashed in 1929, or when we entered the Vietnam War, The countries faced numerous situations that have changed along the way, the first serial killer, H. H. Holmes, changed the country so much more. Many other killers have come about since Holmes, they can be quite similar to Holmes, but in a way very different. Most serial killers have similar traits that distinguish them like life changing experiences. “It was a wicked and dangerous thing to do to a child of tender years and health,” (Larson 39) Holmes says about his first encounter with a human skeleton. That experience changed him forever; cured of his fears the fascination of death began. Another serial killer with a similar experience is Charles Manson. “When he was sent to live with his aunt, his uncle told him he was a sissy, and punished him by sending him to school dressed as a girl” (“Charles Manson”). Throughout Manson’s childhood, scarring moments followed him. When exposed to unpleasant situations, the mind tries to deal with whatever is going on, thus sometimes altering the extent of the …show more content…

    H. Holmes shares many traits with other serial killers, there are several factors that separates him from other serial killers and thus makes him more interesting. For example, many of Holmes’ murders were extremely vicious and by the time of his death, he is suspected to have “killed over three hundred people” (Chavez). However, even though he had amassed a large death toll, no one had noticed what he was doing or that people were going missing. Some of this may be attributed to the fuss of the Chicago World’s Fair overshadowing the disappearance of these people, but it also may be because Holmes hid the murders so well and did not seek fame for them as other serial killers do. Many serial killers commit murder in order to exert power and they want their crimes to be known so that other people will fear them and thus they will feel more powerful.…

A lot of people want to blame the parents of the offenders, asking “what did you turn your child into?” 36% of serial killers were physically abused, 26% were sexually abused, and 50% were psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). Many people have logically come to the conclusion that just because someone is abused, it does not mean that they will become a serial killer; or even a murderer; which is true. In the general population (people who have never committed murder) only 6% are physically abused, 3% are sexually abused, and 2% are psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). The dramatic difference of abuse frequency between people who are serial killers and people who are not seems evident enough to support that serial killers are created.…

The book “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson gave the stories of two men at the time of the World’s Fair - one being America’s first serial killer, H.H.Holmes. During Holmes’s killing spree, everyone was distracted by the World’s Fair therefore enabling him to make at least “twenty-seven people” disappear without others noticing. The detective named Graham called Holmes the “most dangerous man in the world” to show how destructive and cruel he truly was.…
