Feminist Approach to Female Juvenile Delinquency

According to Karl Marx, “historical change was caused by a series of class struggles between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'”. It is believed that Feminism rose from the mind of Mr. Marx and has been adapted and improved by many women trailblazers through the centuries. Merriam-Webster's definition of Feminism is, “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities,” but is that all that feminism is? I believe that it is much broader than that. Feminism is a social theory based on the oppression of women throughout history. Feminist theory aims to understand the nature of gender, politics, power relations,

Because the same opportunities are not offered to women, and women get paid a lower salary than men in most cases, woman commit crimes to keep afloat. Women often commit crimes because the men that they are with are into criminal activity or are forcing them to do so as well. On the grounds of male supremacy, women in this society do not get the same job opportunities as their male counterparts or are forced into free labor such as sex slaves or factory workers. Although Davis is right about the fact that poor and working class women get exploited, she forgets to mention that all women get exploited. Female oppression does not just happen to the poor and working class women of the world, it happens to all women.

Women have always been seen as inferior human beings compared to men. Throughout history, women have always been treated as less than. They were always at home making sure home is taken care of and waiting to satisfy their man’s sexual needs (Coole,15). Men believing that sex and taking care of home is all that women are good for since the beginning of time, has set the foundation to how women are treated in societies around the world till this

Pornography and rape are the main tools used to oppress women and make them feel as if they are less than and seen as nothing more than sexual objects to men. Sex is used as a control mechanism towards women. Women do not get raped because of sexual desire, but because the man wants to make sure she knows who is in power. In pornography woman are put into submissive situations for the amusement of men. In most cases, pornography is never really geared towards a woman's satisfaction but in fact, what men consider “sexy”. “Pornography...is a form of discrimination and aggression the way sexual harassment is. And people have difficulty in getting a mental handle on this due only to the fact that they've frankly been brainwashed by the notion that {pornography} is speech (Mackinnon,1).” Dworkin and Mackinnon have a point when they say rape and pornography are violent social constructs used to oppress women and girls. What their theories lack is the fact that rape and porn are not the one and only violent tool used in male supremacy. Domestic violence and child abuse are forms of male supremacy used to oppress

The population of women in American prisons is staggeringly high, more than any other country in the world. There could be many different aspects that lead women to have such a large prison population in the united states, more so than simply that America has a large population of women in general. One possible explanation could be that in America women are seen more as equals to men then in some other countries. With women being seen as just as capable as men judges may be less lenient on women then judges of other countries, giving them the same sentences as men. Another possibility could be that perhaps America doesn’t see women as equals to men, and expect women to fir certain roles within society.…

Feminism is the belief that no gender is superior over the other. This means that every person is looked at as a human being; while there gender does not dictate the kind of skill, job, or role they should have in society. For years, there have been stereotypes that men and women hold two different roles in society. Feminism takes away from the idea that only the woman should be at home cooking, doing the laundry, cleaning, and taking care of the kids; while the man is out working all day. A couple of centuries ago this was fine as it was a little easier for a family to survive off of one income.…

While doing so, it teaches male and female viewers that women should be inferior, compliant individuals. Dr. Bressi, a victim of sexual assault that featured in Price of Pleasure, stated that being forced to view porn was meant to teach her, “how to be subservient, how to degrade [herself]”. Porn has the ability to do so because it portrays women as vulnerable, submissive beings that depend on men for their importance, otherwise feeling useless. Female performers in pornographic scenes get into their roles in ways such as shouting objectifying lines about being further manhandled which makes viewers think they tolerate how they are being treated. While many performers are simply acting the part, some truly to do tolerate it because they look at their role as part of their career in the industry.…

The “presentation of women as sex objects and victims in various forms of media increases acceptance of violence against women” (Stankiewicz & Rosselli, 2008). Even though reality TV shows do not necessarily outright sanction violence or the objectifying women as sexual objects, the underlying current is always there. In print ads alone, it was “found that exposure of women’s bodies occurred approximately four times as often as exposure of men’s bodies” (Stankiewicz & Rosselli,…

Gender equality is an issue well known by the global population. The problem dates way back throughout history to the ancient civilizations and even before that. Women were given less rights and had a lower social standing in society. In the book Gender in World History, the author, Peter N. Stearns writes about the inequalities between the two sexes as well as their individual roles and positions in different societies. Some examples in his book are “In patriarchal societies, men were held to be superior.…

Pornography The pornographic industry has a reputation of being a causal factor in the degradation of women for the satisfaction of the current patriarchal society. Feminist Helen Longino defines pornography as the “verbal or pictorial explicit representations of sexual behavior that… have as a distinguishing characteristic ‘the degrading and demeaning of the role and status of the human female as a mere sexual object to be exploited and manipulated sexually’” (106). She distinguishes pornography from what she considers to be a more acceptable form of sexual imagery that she labels as erotica.…

Some including Simon believed that as females entered the workforce, they would have access to criminal opportunities for crime including fraud, embezzlement, larceny, and forgery. It would seem logical that as any group of individuals were given greater access to something that the chance of something such as crime occurring could also increase. As females were given broader opportunities for employment, they may have also been given access to commit crimes. It could also be the case that some females felt the need to commit crimes in order to support their family and the greater access gave them the opportunity to do so that may not have been present before. Other theories held a feminist approach that the powerlessness of women in a male-dominated culture led to women offending.…

Feminism has been a movement started by women searching for equal rights and opportunities as men. Although feminism can be found in almost any place in the world, feminism in the Puritan faith has absurd punishments. Feminism has been around since the late 1800s; women were tired of unequal rights and being thought of as less.…

Women have always struggled in the fight to gain equality with men, despite the many major advances; society still has a long way to go in addressing the issue of gender inequality. Women’s rights are somewhat a delicate and unsettled subject that society still continues to debate today. The belief that women simply because they are women are treated inequitably within a society as it is organized to prioritize the male viewpoints and concerns. Within a patriarchal society, women have always been placed on a lower status compared to men.…
