I also felt the counselor should have referred his client to another counselor, especially since he felt a romantic attraction to his client’s oldest daughter. According to the American Association of Christian Counselors (2014), counselor should refer their clients when there is a possibility of a dual relationship forming (AACC 1-240). Although the counselor felt he was competent enough to continue counseling the family, it still would have been beneficial for him to refer the family. It would have helped him regroup and place his emotions in check. It also would have given him time to focus on his calling, which was to help people with their struggles.
