To date, the community has the highest cumulative per capita of HIV in the United States. Local clinics are fighting against the spread of the infection through different means of prophylaxis. The first approach that clinics are taking is educating many health facilities, spreading information concerning different aspect of the condition such as the spread and the necessary measures to take such as condoms and sexual practice with one partner. There was also the launch of a risk reduction program to reduce the practice of unprotected sex in the community. Additionally, the program was aimed at reducing behaviors that increase the likelihood of transmitting the infection. There are also several studies in the community that have been done to assess the pattern of infection spread. Previously there were suspicions that the rate was prevalent among IV drug users (Mc Coy et al., 1996). However, studies found the contrary showing that the primary mode of transmission was heterosexual unprotected sex under the influence of some intoxicating substances (De Cock, 2012). Apart from studies of the population, the clinics also carry out the distribution of male and female condoms, which are free of charge.
