Through the OSHA and the workers’ compensation laws, Beverly Tull has the right to file a claim with the board to be able to get a compensation and surgery for her injury. She fulfilled the two requirements of the workers’ compensation laws which are the existence of an employment relationship and that the injury itself resulted from the job or course of employment (Miller, 2015, pp. 656). Beverly did tell her employer about the situation since they recommended her to contact a physician and also filed the claim with the board (Miller, 2015, pp. 675). Beverly Tull did her part when it comes to workers’ compensation laws, therefore she should get the compensation. When Tull filed the claim, the amount of compensation is determined.…

Rick Moore approached me to help him determine what kind of relationship our company, Stenbach Service Centre, has with Hannah, who provides property maintenance services to us. In order to define this relationship, I had to consider what the contract was originally intended for and what is actually involved. My first step was to go to the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) website to find their guide titled Employee or Self-Employed? (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/rc4110/rc4110-e.html).…

With tens of thousands every year in the United States filing for innocent spouse relief, the significance of these changes is non-debatable. James M. Cain’s Double Indemnity, published in 1935, was adapted into a film in the year 1944. This film brought in over $5.7 million in gross net, changed how Hollywood censored films and shaped the path for numerous controversial films to soon be produced. Although Double Indemnity left its impact, the strict Production Code prevented the film adaptation from reaching the full potential sent forth by the book. In her book, Blackout, film noir critic Sheri Chinen Biesen explains how the Motion Picture Production Code held little power over the films produced between the years of 1930 and 1934, but in the beginning of 1934 the National Catholic Legion of Decency had begun threatening to boycott any Hollywood films considered to be indecent.…

Before I actually watched Double Indemnity, I asked myself, “What is the dictionary definition of double indemnity?” I wanted to know, based on the movie title, what the premise of this film would be. I wanted to be able to have a sense of what I would be watching before I actually watched it so that I would not be lost throughout the whole movie. So, I opened up google, typed “double indemnity definition” into the google search bar, and found the answer to my question. To my surprise, after reading multiple definitions from different dictionaries, I found that double indemnity is essentially a stipulation in a life insurance policy where the insurance company that is supplying the policy is required to pay a certain amount to the policy holder…

How uncompensated care cost can be affected by the ACC Article 25 of the Universal declaration of Human rights says, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including medical care.” Since President Barack Obama took the charge of the United States, one of his main goals was to provide health care to almost everyone, especially those people who were uninsured. From an economic perspective, it was going to be a challenge to both reduce the uncompensated care cost of the uninsured people and provide health care to the entire nation. However, since the ACC (Affordable Care Act) went into effect in January of 2014, there have been positive results regarding to what the…

Wage Compensation Climate Public and Private sector compensation is an issue that remains at the forefront of public debate. While many proponents argue for increases in compensation many others would argue that public policy that promotes higher compensation in pay would be detrimental to their institutions. We define an institution with some ambiguity for this argument to mean any public organization with a purpose or function. This public policy issue has become the ideal fermenting ground for the field of public administrations’ mediation in the disputes related to wage regulation. It can be stated that wage regulation is directly correlated with the sustainability of both public and private organizations.…
