To Pay or Not to Pay “During the 2013-2014 school year, the University of South Carolina spent $31,598 on each member of the men’s tennis team”, (Haire). Colleges spend a lot of their funds on their athletic teams, such as keeping the fields and courts well-kept, getting the athletes jerseys, and accessories such as cleats, helmets, and pads to play with. For football players, everything is paid in full for them and still college athletes want to get paid. That would be unfair to the students that are there not for athletics because they work just as hard as the athletes, they just do not play a sport. Therefore, colleges should not pay their athletes because it is inequitable and unsportsmanlike. Paying college athletes is both inequitable
