Reilly started her lesson with using the smart board; she started off at the number 1 and had a picture of a single farm cow with the sound a cow makes, and how to spell the number 1(one). The class would repeat the number 1 and respond to Mrs. Reilly that there was one cow. The next slide had 2 farm pigs with the noise a pig makes, and the spelling of the number 2 (two) underneath the pigs. The class would repeat the same steps they did for number 1, which was repeating the number and how many farm pigs were on the screen. The class followed this pattern and steps up to the number 20. After these steps Mrs. Reilly used a formative assessment of having the students build using counting cubes the number written on the smart board. For an example the first number was 8, the students had to connect 8 counting cubes together. Mrs. Reilly used this strategy to inform herself on how well the students can count up to a certain number using the counting …show more content…
He started to play with the cubes as if it was a toy, rather then remembering that they are tools used for math. Luis was alternating the colors blue and red he was building an excess amount past the number that should have been built. As Mrs. Reilly observed this during the lesson she removed the blue cubes and left Luis with only red cubes. Luis seemed much more focused after only being left with red cubes, but had trouble building the correct amount of cubes, Luis would lose count, or skip a cube while counting. That is when Mrs. Reilly gave Luis a counting board with boxes labeled 1-20. This helped Luis separate the counting cubes, as he was counting them out. Luis found this to be sufficiently helpful as he started to correctly build the correct numbers that were appointed by Mrs.
