Summary And Symbolism In Speak

Melinda had several symbolic things to her during the novel “Speak.” I found the tree was a symbol to her, her art teacher Mr. Freeman and Maya Angelou. These symbols had a major effect on her through the book. Symbols have effects on people because it could remind them of something or an object. Symbols play a good role for Melinda during the novel Speak.
Melinda’s tree was very symbolic to her. In the novel Melinda randomly chooses it as her art project for the year. Mr Freeman called it her “destiny”, when Melinda started to draw it looked like it was struck by lightning and partially dead. It seemed to represent the darkness in her personality.
Mr Freeman allowed Melinda to be free to herself. He suffered in what he believed in. Mr
