Expository Writing Reflection

Expository Writing has been a very successful and informative course for me. I fully understand all of the concepts learned, such as the rhetorical precise and the PIE format, and I also feel like I have a much better understanding of how to write more professionally. I realized that I actually enjoy writing when I write professionally, and when it’s about a topic that I am passionate about or have researched extensively. Before this class, I was an average writer, but now I feel much more confident. Also, this class has helped me with numerous writing assignments in other classes as well. Assignment 4 was a Summary and Analysis of “The Earth is Full” by Thomas Friedman, and I decided that Friedman’s essay was not effective. Lastly, assignment 6 was an argumentative letter to Secretary of State John Kerry on overpopulation and resource depletion. These three assignments are all very different, and I believe that they are all good representations of my writing experience and ability. Assignment 3, a Summary and Analysis of “A Nation of Mutts” by David Brooks was the second Summary and Analysis that I had written. The first one was the previous assignment and I essentially used that as a learning experience to do better on assignment 3. “A Nation of Mutts” is a short essay in which Brooks argues that the United States will inevitably become a nation made up of mostly immigrants, and the diversity of this country will be vast.
