Summary: After School Newcomer Youth Leadership Program

After School Newcomer Youth Leadership Program –Newcomers Empowerment Settlement support for Teens (NEST). This program will focus on Leadership Development, Goal Setting, Decision Making, Stress Management, Self-esteem, self-identity, Communication Skills, Healthy Living, and Social Justice, team building, academic success, community resources, conflict resolution/communication,civic engagement

Ideally the start date for both programs would be April 9, 2015 and end date May 28th 2013.
Dates: Every Thursday
Time : 2:45 – 4:15 pm
Place: (mini gym/cafeteria )

The newcomer youth leadership program curriculum is written specifically to support newcomer youth with their integration into Canadian life. Language, cultural boundaries and low self-esteem make it difficult for newcomer youth to join regular programs in schools. Therefore, the program could be successful in helping newcomer youth to overcome the difficulty of social,

The possibility for relationship and trust building would be greater since there would be an interaction between the students. Thus, the newcomer youth who would normally not get involved in afterschool programs could get more engage. The after school program aims to develop their self-confidence, cultural awareness, and build friendships among newcomers in our community. And more importantly, to provide them with a safe space to express their concerns, ideas and enhance their communication skills.Also, the program focuses on fostering in youth the value of civic engagement and community development in Canada. The objective is to have the youth complete some of their community hours by providing them with community involvement opportunities and supporting their process of making Canada their new home.
