Summary: A Career As A Neonatologist

Saving the lives of premature and ill infants would be extremely rewarding, that is what a Neonatologist does. A neonatologist is a type of doctor that specializes in the care of infants who are not stable enough to survive on their own. Being a neonatologist is no easy job, there is a lot of emotion involved with this career, some doctors may become emotionally attached to a certain patient or infant, which makes it difficult for the doctor when that patient or infant dies. Neonatologist also have to be very intelligent, they are in charge of the care that a certain infant receives, and if that infant does not receive exceptional care is it could result in a major consequence. Being a Neonatologist requires graduating from an accredited medical school, completing residencies or internships, and having …show more content…
These 11-16 years of schooling includes: four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and a 3-8 year internship or residency. As well as completing this amount of schooling, Neonatologist must pass a standardized national license exam. Being a Neonatologist requires having several skills in order to succeed in the career. Communication skills are vital, Neonatologists talk to concerned parents of many of their patients and they also talk to the nurses and give them orders about how to start or proceed with treatment. Leadership and Organizational skills are also very important skills to possess when being a Neonatologist. Neonatologist need to have superb leadership skills because they control what goes on in their specialty, they have to step up and know what to do and when to do it.
