For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

Being a clinician is a way of life: a life that puts the needs of others before yourself; a dynamic life; a life which brings an individual face to face with the realities of this world, bringing them to the forefront of understanding and using that to guide their judgements. This is the sort of life I want to lead. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired and then seeing its effect, especially with regards to the wellbeing of others, is something that I find joy in. I began volunteering at my high school’s science club for year seven’s in which I was able to share and help the communication of science through a combination of discussions and lab work. Following this was almost a year volunteering at Trafford General Hospital, providing a trolley service.…

Yes, I am applying to three distance dietetic internships due this February 15th, that require me to get preceptors for all of my rotations. I had asked Judith, If I could do my rotation with the University of Northern Colorado at WIC, since that the first application I started to fill out. Since I am applying though the DICAS website, I can only get matched to one internship even if I submit multiple applications. If I don't get accepted to the University of Northern Colorado, but get accepted to Priority Nutrition Care, I would prefer to use that approved time slot between 10/23-12/15 (8 weeks) to do a rotation with WIC in Pasadena. This way I can increase my chances to get accepted to an internship and still do a rotation with WIC.…

Michigan State University offers a degree in nutritional science as well, however I decided to major in dietetics. A dietitian has many different responsibilities.…
