African sulcata tortoise is one of the largest tortoises in the world. Its protruding spurs in its feet have no function at all. These turtles are very easy to maintain with an average weight of 80kg. Since it is large enough, it is not suitable to be kept in the house. The breeding must be outside the house like garden. This tortoise has a longer life than the average human. Sulcata classified as herbivores that eat fruits and vegetables. Here are the characteristics of sulcata.
They do not like humid places this is because it was originally derived from African which has dry climate. sulcata naturally live in Sudan, Togo, Ethiopia, Mauritania to Mali. Therefore, make sure the breeding is dry and free from water. You only need give water for once or twice a week.

For sulcata breeding, breeders usually provide cactus, carrots, lettuce, hibiscus, mulberry leaves, watercress, and fumak. Avoid high protein foods to prevent pyramiding. You should consult the more experienced people if you want to provide other types of vegetables to sulcata.
Sulcata also need to be given calcium intake. Calcium can be obtained from certain calcium supplements reptiles that are circulating in the market or can also use the smoothed cuttlefish bones.
Sunning the sulcata sulcata drying in the sun should be done at least 1 week for 5 or 10 minutes under the sun in the morning (under 9am). Besides absorbing vitamin D, sunning is also done to help eliminate viruses and bacteria that may be found on the carapace. Do not sunning sulcata without supervision and immediately move it if it began to look uneasy and restless.
