Sula's Reason For Helping Eva In The Beechnut

Not Sula Sula is not the villain. Although, Sula has completed a lot of heinous acts, none of them were malicious. Sula’s first heinous act, that harmed someone, was the death of Chicken. When Chicken entered the text, on page 130, Nel immediately began to berate him, Sula then stood up for Chicken and helped him climb a tree. Furthermore, Sula was very nurturing to Chicken when helping him climb a tree, for she offered words of encouragement and comfort. Chicken’s death was the result of Sula and him playing; his death was not intentional. The second heinous act, was placing Eva in a nursing home. Sula’s reasons for placing Eva in the Beechnut is still unknown to me, but I understand why Sula felt she had no obligation to take care Eva.

Although most of the characters didn’t have much of a heroic side I believe the filmmakers put an emphasis on the motives of these characters, which determines whether they are villainous or heroic. In the case of this film, I would label Llewelyn Moss and Anton Chiguhr as the main culprits that are highly motivated by similar values. Llewelyn comes across a suitcase filled with two million dollars in the middle of a field. After taking the suitcase back home and burying it under his house, Llewelyn returns to the field where he found the suitcase. The owners of the suitcase were waiting at the field and chased Llewelyn.…

Abigail Williams is probably the least complex character in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Once desired but now spurned by John Proctor, the object of her lust, she uses the community’s fear of witchcraft to tear through every obstacle, including Proctor’s wife, in order to get him to love her again. Although Abigail's actions in the play are definitely understandable, as her motive and background are not complex, they are certainly not excusable. Abigail’s motivation for everything that she does is to eventually marry John Proctor. The lone obstacle to this goal is Goody Proctor, John’s wife.…

In this essay, I will argue that it is permissible to kill a villainous aggressor, an innocent aggressor, and an innocent threat, but not an innocent bystander. According to Judith Jarvis Thompson, it is morally permissible for person A to kill person B in self-defense if and only if (1) B will kill A unless A kills B, and (2) if B kills A, the B will violate A ’s right that B not kill A (Handout #16). The villainous aggressor is someone who is intentionally trying to kill you and who is morally responsible for trying (Handout #16).…

In the book A Good and Happy Child, Justin Evans uses the idea of a demonic presence to suggest the idea that there are sources of evil in everyday life, for example, the significant theme of technology in Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. Both authors present pernicious issues that cause obsession, emotional turmoil, and strained relationships in the lives of the protagonists. Also, each book introduces the malevolent subjects as things that are supposed to be helpful to the characters involved, and after the struggling with the harmful obstacles, both main characters find a solution in similar ways. First, Evans and Sloan bring the evil into the main character’s life without him realizing that it is there for wicked reasons.…

“Fair is foul, and foul is fair.” A Shakespearian enthusiast might recognize this paradoxical quote from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, but for many its meaning remains puzzling. How can any sane person claim good is bad, and bad is good? But before writing Shakespeare off as a lunatic, one must take this quote in the context of the story. In Macbeth this quote gives a foreshadowing of the characters of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.…
