After reading through the two novels, this one summer by Jillian, Mariko Tamaki’s and The Sula’s by Toni Morrison, we understand that the two novels demonstrate how family and friends connect to prevalent issues individual identity, sexuality, and race? This line shows how serious the black church (religion) is so important in this family, as mention is the basis and the foundation of respect and style life. Alice share the same rules and value as the Helene, as responsible mothers, they both must educate and correct their children mistake and guide them for a good path in this line Alice says “ I don’t like you talking like that” (Tamaki’s, 230) when Rose starting been disrespectful, Alice act as a serious mother for her daughter to stop acting this way, because this could impact her behavior in the coming age. In addition, this proves that even Helene grows up in a different family consist of more religion aspect, but at the end, both mothers share the same jobs which is making sure that their children raise in a good condition no matter how many influence’s and the temptation can be. How do Alice and Eva actions address the ambiguous blessings of a mother's strong love for her children? Rose and windy learn about Duncan’s girlfriend, Jenny is pregnant. Duncan start avoids responsibilities by times goes on, as he says in this line “ She might not even be pregnant, right? You said she still has to go the doctor” (Tamaki’s 277). Duncan’s does not want to go with Jenny to the doctor, and was not sure even if she was pregnant, he thought that he was not his baby, and maybe it belongs to someone else. As he says in this line “ get proof” (Tamaki’s, 276) this show that Jenny emphasize Duncan about his responsibility, Duncan did not care, so Jenny fall down in the ocean and screams for help, Roses’ mom rushes to rescue her and save her life. In The Sula’s, Eva feels the same way as Alice to devote her children, When she sees her daughter Hannah on fire, she does not hesitate to try to save Hannah by jumping on top of her from her bedroom window.
