The book ‘The House on Mango Street’, written by Sandra Cisneros is full of color, and inspiring latin culture. Her artistry is written in quite a humorous way, the way how she describes a family’s feet, how one feels beautiful with high heels, and the kind of unwanted attraction they bring. To begin with is the imagery of hows Cisnero brings us the description of a family’s feet, which is quoted such as, “The Grandpa slept on the living room couch and snored through his teeth. His feet were fat and doughy like thick tamales”.(Cisneros, 39). “Thick Tamales”, was the imagery given to us through Cisneros's writing, She wrote tamales as they are long, fat and have wrinkly corn husk covering it.…

Deconstruction of an Angel Deny it or not, we all have an addiction to something. Whether it be to something physical or mental; our brains are wired to seeing that object as a reward or a motivation for our bodies to crave and want more. In the music video “A Team” by Ed Sheeran, he makes it known to the world that addiction can easily take over our entire being and even tear us apart. Belonging is shaped through the experiences an individual encounter over time. Skrzynecki represents this with his experiences of belonging explored in 10 Mary Street, where he lived “for nineteen years”. His repetitive use of time reinforces the routine he mentions in his story, strengthening his sense of security and connection that Skrzynecki had, he then talks about the difficulty he faced to leave the comfort of his own home to cross “over that still-too-narrow bridge” and finish his travel to his boring school, with this Skrzynecki, deepens his connection and experiences he had with his old home. In contrast ‘In the Folk Museum’ shows how Skrzynecki felt like an outsider to the Australian society, because of his inability to relate to…

I usually agree with accusations when something like this happens, however I don't know that this is as big of a deal as people are making it. Was it unprofessional of her; Yes, absolutely -- but was it a slight on Bill Nye -- probably not. Who she is on camera may not be who she is in real life - a persona of sorts. I’m reading the story "After' (a watt pad story) and in the story the girl is a freshman in college and gets stuck with a roommate who has some unusual hobbies. One of the scenes in the book is when she goes to her first party with the roommate and her 2 friends. The emoji’s I would use to describe this scene is the laughing image and the shocked looking image because she ends up getting drink spilled on her, she is ready to go home, her friend gets drunk, she doesn't really fit in, and she walks in on two people in a room. In the text the author states," Yea. no...…

In the 15th century, the search for the trade route between Europe and Asia led to the Age of Discovery, a rise in global trade, in which European empires were exploring oversea lands and expanding Western European influence. This was the starting point of European colonial empires that followed for the next six centuries. Eventually, it was believed that without proper knowledge of the people they ruled, the colonial rulers were at a disadvantage, which led to the study of the Orient and the creation of Orientalism. (Said 1979) As the conquerors of India "sought to control its subject people more fully [...] they proclaimed themselves an Indian empire" (Metcalf 2002, 439) eventually creating the Indo-Saracenic style architecture which supported…

A few weeks ago, I found myself on the second floor of the North end of the Unity Health Hospital, dressed in the nicest button-up shirt and dress pants I own, shaking so hard that my folder, which held my resume, cover letter, two pens, notebook paper and a cheesy motivational quote stuck to the inside cover, nearly fell out of my hands. My first job interview was an experience that I will never forget. My anxiety reached the point of exacerbation during the fifteen minutes that I spent in the empty lobby. I had intentionally arrived fifteen minutes earlier than my appointed time and was only accompanied by my own thoughts, which were fraught with worry. Had I arrived too early?…
