I believe that a functionalist perspective fits perfectly into researching and learning about suicide. When figuring out the reasons for why someone decided to take their own life, you not only need to consider what the person was feeling or going through, but also what was going on in his or her surroundings.
An attempt of suicide, as I aforementioned, does not necessarily occur because of a mental issue, but society also contributes to it. Some of the reasons for why someone might want to commit suicide are because of pain, loneliness, depression, abuse, and hopelessness, to name a few. All those reasons mentioned and more could be caused by the way someone is living at home or is going through at school or work. In essence, society plays a big part in how we live our lives and how we feel about
