At that time, a well-dressed man in his early forties approaches Freddie. He leans into the vehicle asking what happened, addressing the question to the paramedics, and not to Freddie, who notwithstanding, thinks the person should have asked him. After all, he was one that got his ass kicked not the stupid paramedics. “You’re a lucky man,” the paramedics tell Freddie, and subsequently put their attention addressing the detective with the diagnosis, “No vital organ or major artery has been hit,” explain the younger of the two paramedics, a newly acquired supporter of the job, a recruit right out of Medical school, certificate in hand and eager to impress.
Bright-eyed and educated the new hire gives the details, “There are three major types

And frankly, I don’t feel like searching for another unrecognizable John Doe lost in a mountain of paperwork hidden away somewhere in a basement, and all because you want to die…we got more JD’s then Webster has words. Register this in that thick head of yours. They tried to kill a cop, a cop! You are nothing to them. After you get out the hospital, these people are coming for you. Next time, you will not be driving out in an ambulance Freddie; you will be delivered in a Hurst,” the detective reaches into his wallet and hands Freddie a twenty-dollar bill.

Still not sure what to make of the diehard wannabe Freddie makes up his mind to listen.

The Ambulance pulls away. Freddie reviews the whole thing, starting with the Salvation Army Chapel, the little makeshift church with the woman preacher, the Bible on a chair, flipping through the pages, and finally, the woman’s voice rings in his head.
“God created Adam, and he was dead!” the elderly man in the back row.
“That’s right!
