Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a novel surrounding Clay Jensen and the late Hannah Baker. Hannah Baker had committed suicide and recorded her reasons for doing so on cassette tapes. She sent the tapes to the thirteen people she deems responsible, in some way, for her death. Clay Jensen receives the cassette tapes and is directed by Hannah through the city as he listens to her retell the events that led up to her suicide.
