Suicide can be considered selfish on terms that there are always people who care about the safely of the suicidal individual, so by making the decision to end their own suffering, the mentally ill person is deciding to give their heartache to someone else. Along with being seen as a selfish act people who consider suicide mainly focus on their life in the present moment and they feel they cannot overcome whatever obstacle life has thrown at them, they do not always realize that tomorrow can be better for them. In most cases a suicide can be avoided seeing that humans are made to love, so if the suicidal person is shown more love and given more time interacting with others, the thoughts of suicide can become little to none.
After reading the story I have a better understanding that sometimes people are given too much to handle on their own, so be nice to everyone, we do not know what is going on in their thoughts. However some questions have come to my mind. Given that Poe was suicidal, does writing help to clear suicidal thoughts, or does writing and thinking about dark stories affect a suicidal person poorly? And how often does reading help a mentally ill person escape their suicidal
