Audrie Potts a high school sophomore in the Saratoga, California struggled with bullying, social media issues, anxiety, and abuse. Her battle ended on September 10, 2012. In her article “Sexting, shame and Suicide” Burleigh discussed the circumstances that brought Potts to commit suicide. Having been sexual assaulted and exposed on social media, Potts began to struggle with bullying and shame. Before the early 90s, suicide was not a topic that was discussed frequently, it was rare that it was discussed in schools and in the press.
