Suicide Awareness Day Research Paper

42,000 Americans commit suicide every year. 60% of Americans are affected by it in their lifetime. Those statistics inspired a local school district to hold their own Suicide Awareness Day.

"I feel like they are getting that this is a real problem. It's not something that you could just ignore, it's something that happens to real people," said Campbell-Savona High School Freshman, Emily Smith. The school's student council organized the Suicide Awareness Day.

The students sold t-shirts, ribbons and bracelets for the Western Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Awareness. To raise awareness about suicide prevention around 70 students volunteered to go silent every 12 minutes, symbolizing the statistic that an American dies
